A meeting of the Central Route Hilal Committee is underway in Islamabad to Watch the Shawwal moon in the country.
The meeting of the Central Route Hilal Committee is being held under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad while the meetings of Zonal Committees are being held in the provincial capitals.
Eid-ul-Fitr will be announced after receiving evidence of the sighting of the moon.
Remember that astronomers have said that the moon is unlikely to appear today.
The day of Shawwal was not observed in any Gulf country including Saudi Arabia yesterday, due to which there is a 30th fast today and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on May 13 (Thursday).
Similarly, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Thursday in most western countries.
It may be recalled that the Ruwit-e-Hilal Committee is trying to ensure that Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated all over the country together this year and for this purpose, the members of the committee have started referring to the Ulema who have visited Shawwal in the past. There was public opposition to the announcement of the sighting of the moon.
Some members of the committee had also expressed concern over the premature announcement of Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry about the expected date of Eid.
In front of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, chairman of the Ruwit-e-Hilal Committee, several members expressed concern that such statements by the Information Minister would encourage clerics like Mufti Popalzai of the Qasim Khan Mosque in Peshawar to relinquish power to the committee this year.
