Indonesia Stopped Citizens From Performing Hajj Due to Coronavirus

Jakarta: The Indonesian government has refused to allow citizens to perform the Hajj this year, as it did last year.

According to foreign media, Indonesia’s Minister of Religious Affairs has said that in view of the current situation of the corona epidemic, the government will not allow citizens to perform Hajj this year as well.

He said that the Saudi government has not set a quota for Hajj nor has it signed a memorandum of understanding. It has been decided to send the citizens who have deposited money for Hajj next year.

It should be noted that in 2020, the Saudi government had banned the arrival of foreign pilgrims due to the Corona epidemic, however, Saudi citizens and foreigners already in the country were allowed to perform Hajj. Last year, only 1,000 people performed the Hajj ritual.

The Saudi health minister announced in March this year that only domestic and foreign nationals receiving the corona vaccination would be allowed to perform the Hajj.

However, according to Reuters, the Saudi government is once again considering banning foreign nationals. And the government will allow those who get the corona vaccination to perform the Hajj within six months.
