According to railway officials, the Shah Hussain Express, which left Karachi for Lahore last night, reached near Samasta railway station in Punjab when its engine caught fire.
Railway staff separated the engine from other bodies. The local administration and police were informed.
Authorities said Samasta police and 1122 rescue crews rushed to the scene and extinguished the engine fire with the help of railway employees. No casualties were reported but the engine was severely damaged.
According to railway officials, a new engine has been arranged for the Shah Hussain Express, after which the train was diverted to its destination at 12.15 pm.
According to officials, the train was delayed for four hours and the railway team was inspecting the engine that caught fire.
