Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister has said that a plane arriving in Afghanistan to evacuate its citizens was hijacked by unknown individuals and taken to Iran.
“The plane was stolen from us on Tuesday and instead of airlifting Ukrainian citizens, it flew to Iran with a group of unidentified passengers,” Yenin was quoted as saying by the Russian news agency Tass.
“After that, three more attempts to evacuate us failed because our citizens could not reach Kabul airport,” the deputy foreign minister said.
According to the report, the minister said that the hijackers were armed, but he did not comment on what happened to the plane and whether Ukraine would take steps to export the plane.
However, he assured that the Ukrainian embassy was working in crash test mode to evacuate its citizens from Afghanistan under the supervision of the Foreign Minister.
